The Flipper Bend trail loop is a moderate 9 mile loop that is for foot traffic only. I have seen a number of mountain bikes on the single tract over the years but there is not access for dirt bikes or ATVs. If you follow the white blaze from the parking lot on Hixson Springs it will take you around towards Boston Branch.
There are two overlooks along the trail. The first is the Powerline Overlook is about 3.5 miles into the trail and provides views of Soddy Daisy and the Tennessee River Valley. The second is the Pocket Wilderness Overlook and is is about 4 miles from the trailhead. The Pocket Wilderness Overlook features view of the North Chickamauga Creek Gorge. The loop continues around and you will see an entrance to the new Flipper Bend Subdivision. Follow the trail back around and it will loop back to the parking lot. Most of the trail consists of moderate elevation changes but there are a few places with steeper sections.
To reach the Flipper Bend Area Trails, take 27-North out of downtown Chattanooga. Take the 153/Dayton Pike Exit, and turn left onto Dayton Pike. After about .5 mile, turn left onto Roberts Mill Road. Follow Roberts Mill Road to the top of the mountain, and veer right onto Hixson Springs Road. After about 1.3 miles, turn left into the gravel parking lot at the intersection of Hixson Springs Road and Standing Rock Road.
