The below is an email that the Town of Signal Mountain sent out today. Included is a link to the Survey Monkey questionare regarding the questions that have recently come up during a recent meeting of The School System Viability Committee (SSVC).

Dear Citizens:

The School System Viability Committee (SSVC), assembled by the Signal Mountain Town Council to examine the feasibility of forming an independent Signal Mountain School District, is seeking your input about how best to provide optimal quality education for children attending Signal Mountain public schools.

A desire to provide improved quality of education is the prime motivator for exploring the feasibility of an independent municipal school district. Signal Mountain public schools are highly regarded, but even the best schools are always exploring ways to improve the education they provide. The SSVC is, therefore, eager to hear from you—people who are highly invested in the education our local children receive. We want to know your appraisal of the current quality of education our children receive, and any suggestions you may have for strengthening that education.

Whether you know children who attend our schools, or have concerns about education, you may have thoughts to share about the strengths of our schools, and ideas about how they could be improved. We are asking you to share your thoughts. The survey will also be distributed to administrators, teachers and staff who work in Signal Mountain public schools as well as parents and guardians of children attending our schools. Your responses will be pooled with theirs.

The survey is anonymous; there is absolutely no way for responses to be linked back to any individual. This is so that everyone who completes the survey can express their thoughts and suggestions freely.

Completion of the survey will require about 10 – 15 minutes of your time. It may take more, or less time, depending on the length and detail of your comments and suggestions. Once the survey has been opened, you are free to exit it at any time.

After all the anonymous responses are received, they will be summarized and included in group form in the final report of the School System Viability Committee, which will be available to the public and shared with the Signal Mountain Town Council; summary findings may also be discussed with Hamilton County Department of Education.

We cannot promise that every suggestion could or would be fulfilled if a new municipal school district is created, but we do want to give everyone a chance to offer their ideas and suggestions.

The survey can be found at the following link:

The survey will remain open until 11:59 PM on Monday, August 21, 2017. Please complete the survey before that date.

Thank you for your assistance with this survey. We look forward to hearing from you.
